Injuries & Special Populations (ISP)

This comprehensive course bridges the gap between Pilates and rehabilitation, equipping instructors with the expertise to work safely within the post-rehabilitation and prevention spectrum. Participants will master industry screening standards, delve into the biomechanics of optimal and dysfunctional movement patterns, and learn to effectively manage common musculoskeletal injuries across the spine and extremities. The curriculum emphasizes practical programming, covering essential modifications for special populations such as pregnancy and osteoporosis, with hands-on application across all major Pilates equipment. Attendees will leave with the skills to confidently assess, modify, and progress exercises using effective cueing techniques to support clients with diverse movement abilities.

The session is a one day, six hour training session in person at Sole Pilates Deddignton

What you will learn

  • Fundamentals of Pilates & Rehabilitation

  • The Pilates instructor’s role within the rehabilitation spectrum, focusing on prevention and post-rehabilitation.

  • Industry screening standards for safe programming.

  • Biomechanics of movement, including optimal and dysfunctional patterns.

  • Understanding Injuries & Special Conditions

  • Common musculoskeletal injuries & dysfunctions (spine, shoulder, hip, knee, ankle, wrist).

  • Special population considerations in Pilates, including modifications & programming for pregnancy and osteoporosis.

  • Exercise adaptations across Matwork, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, and Barrels.

  • Practical Programming & Progressions

  • Assess and modify Pilates exercises to accommodate clients with diverse movement abilities.

  • Apply safe and effective progression strategies for clients recovering from injury.

  • Effective cueing and communication when working with special populations.

Requirements for certification 

  • Students must have completed at least one of the following:

  • Intensive Mat-Plus™ (IMP)

  • Intensive Reformer (IR)

  • Comprehensive Matwork & Reformer (CMR)
